The word "Procrusteanizing" is derived from the term "Procrustes", which traces its origins back to Greek mythology. Procrustes, also known as Damastes, was a legendary brigand who owned a fortress on Mount Korydallos in Attica, Greece.
Procrustes had a unique and cruel way of dealing with his victims. He had an iron bed, and any traveler who passed by would be invited to rest in it. However, if the traveler was shorter than the bed, Procrustes would stretch their body by pulling their limbs until they fit perfectly on the bed. On the other hand, if the traveler was taller than the bed, he would amputate the parts that exceeded its size.
